openboats 134

Been working on this for the last while and was fortunate enough to win a small Regional in Toronto this weekend. Haven't seen a lot of Iden decks kicking around so wanted to share this one.

Here are the matchups. A big thanks to all my opponents, and the whole group at 401 Games, who all made for a very fun day of Destiny.

W eHan eQi'Ra | Solidarity

W eLuke/eYoda | Taking Ground

L eYoda/Hired Gun/Gungan | AR Shadowcaster

W eVader/Greedo

W eVader/Greedo

Top 4 W Ciena/Guavian/eBala | AR Firespray 2-0

Top 2 W rematch vs. eYoda/Hired Gun/Gungan AR 2-0

The battlefield might cloud the fact that this is a pure aggro deck. In a nutshell: between AR, Talzin's ability, and Iden's 2, it's very effective and consistent at putting out more 2 sides than the opponent can handle, while a heavy and versatile mitigation package keeps their game plan in check.

how did the Vehicle fare for you overall? was it slowing you down?

The ARC is consistently great. I could definitely see an argument for a Hover Tank option, among others, but I was always really pleased with how it performed. The ARC, Armored Reinforcement and Dorsal Turret are an unholy trinity in this deck.

That said, effectively turning your lineup into a 3-wide definitely slows you down. Your first turn in particular is pretty slow and methodical. That's why I took WFA instead of Theed or Rift Valley, less chance to have your battlefield turned against you.

What are your thoughts on the vehicle hate (e.g. Vandalize, EMP, etc.). This deck seems vulnerable to losing that support fairly fast.

openboats 134

The ARC's ability is a pretty strong deterrent to vehicle-hate. Disable still sucks, but other than that I'm usually ok with having the ARC bounced to my hand at the high price my opponent has to pay to do it.

Between the ARCs ability, the relatively low investment in the vehicle, and the Seeker Droid's special, I can't think of a 'vehicle' deck more immune to the hate cards.

Congrats on the victory! Mom-Iden is indeed a very fun, potent deck. What is your thought on Rift Valley - Dathomir vs Weapons Factory? And are there any cards you would cut/wish you had now that you've had the tournament?

openboats 134

Thanks kindly. I like WFA since it allows you to get the ARC and one of your high value 1 cost upgrades (Dorsal/Seeker) using just your starting resources. Rift Valley can be great, but you've already got a lot of mitigation and you aren't consistently fast enough to get to the claim to use it/avoid it being used against you.

As for changes, I can't think of anything I really missed. But if I needed to adjust I think I Am The Senate would probably be first on the block. Naturally a blowout card in the right situation, but that situation is just too rare to warrant even a one-of in my experience.

Tactical Mastery + All In can be sick in the deck. Roll out Iden to get her dice in pool hoping for a Focus. Then next action Tactical Mastery activating Mother then use her ability to fix a di or change Iden to double focus, then All In for sick damage.

openboats 134

Absolutely. Partnership into All In is even stronger, and doesn't depend on spotting Iden, but I kept it a one-of to avoid messing with Talzin and Witch Magick too much.

Thanks for the list Openboats, you almost have me sold on the Armored Reinforcement version of this list. Giving basically an extra char dice and also opening up Pinned Down and Partnership plays.

openboats 134

Of course, glad folks seem to like it. I'd also be really keen to try out the Blockade version of the pairing, especially now that Thrawn/Snoke isn't everywhere.

Bigulf 821

I have been running the Blockade version as it messes with many Armored Reinforcement first turn plays and makes it harder for Vader to turn 1 Theed Royal Palace - Naboo into Darth Vader's Lightsaber.

Nice list and congrats! Any consideration towards DH or Umbaran? I had those in my list but the arc is certainly good value against the hate.

openboats 134

Thank you! The DH could very easily slot in, I'd consider it and the Energy Bow interchangeable. The Bow was a two-of until late in the process.

The Umbaran option was also a very late cut. I really liked having the choice and I think it's a slam dunk the second 3+ wide is a bit more popular/vehicle hate's a bit less popular. But the ARC ended up working as a consistent, low-maintenance choice. Less stress about the hate cards, no pressure to sneak more mods into the deck, consistent dice sides. Even against 3-wides I didn't feel too hampered since most still have a clear cut #1 target.

Had a chance to play this last night, and it worked pretty well. Played a good vader deck twice, he smoked me the first time (I was still learning this deck), and i handled him pretty well the second time. I'm short one Inferno Squad ID10 Seeker Droid, so I threw in an extra Umbaran Hover Tank.

I'm not sold on Vigilance though- I think I'm going to replace it with either Stifle or Probe. If I get a chance to run it soon with these changes, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for a cool deck!

I played this today in a local tournament. It... didn't go well for me. My first mistake was using Rift Valley instead of WFA or Theed. Not having easy access to more resources really slowed the deck down and meant I had to resolve dice for money instead of damage. This game my opponents more time to do their thing. It didn't help that one of my opponents was using Nute Gunray, so I had to toss cards to get 2 resources for round 2.

After playing this deck, I do think that Umbaran Hover Tank would do well instead of the ARC. Dropping Tactical Mastery to activate Talzin, focus the tank to a special, and resolve for 3 damage each - even against 2 wide - would have made a lot of difference.

There's potential here, but it needs a bit of tweaking to work with my particular play style. Thanks for sharing! I'll keep playing with this.
